Size Matters

When this phrase is said, it is commonly used in a joking manner, usually by teenagers trying to be witty and show off for their immature friends. Here at the Salami Shop, this phrase has taken on a whole new meaning. While the graphic undertones are obvious (Salami, size, ect...), we try to maintain a sense of maturity while using the phrase. We put a bit of love and care into each sandwich that one would come purchase, so, to maintain our integrity, we feel it is necessary to go above and beyond all other inferior sandwich shops. Never will there ever be less than a quarter pound of meat on any sandwich. We guarentee that here. When you take a bite into this heavenly creation that us mere mortals refer to as a sandwich, your mouth will have an extraordinary amount of meat in it. This is the motto that our humble shop is based on. Superior products+an unheard of amount of meat+a generous portion of lettuce and tomato=a creation that even Zeus craves. So, before taking a bite into this piece of heaven, take a second to soak in the pure size of the sandwich. No small bread slices shall restrict us of giving you what you paid for. Stay hungry, my friends.

What if stars are the holes to heaven? What if there is such thing as an elusive dinasour living somewhere in a remote jungle on our planet? How are our eyes so complex that we can filter light in order to see the grass as green and the sky as blue? These are all common questions here at the shop of superior meat. Common idealogies and philisophical ideas are questioned on a daily basis such as....Is it even possible for a sandwich to look and taste so unbeleivably great at the same time? We dont joke around here. There is no brady bunch business or picnic mustard cause we pack a specially wrapped complementary present of love into every bite that erotically explodes into tiny morsles of joy right into every cavity and crevase of your very mouth.

Court (the boss man also known as the SALAMI KING) is a man that will not put on a show or mess arond with the frilly stuff cause he likes to be authentic and real, there are no fake enterprises, and you will experience life as it should be lived in the little shop off La Jolla Blvd.

Life is all about having a good time and spreading the love. There should be no questions asked and never doubt the power of sharing an experience that is so intimate and sensual like eating a stuffed sando. So guys grab your girls, and women tell your men to get down to the shop so you wont die wondering. Size matters here......and the red rocket will never let you down.

My name is willing and im a sandoholic

Saturday July 25, 2009. It really is great to be alive. Got a text from nephew Will at 4:35 AM saying he would probably not make it to work in the morning due to an earache. Texted Timmy at 7. Timmy and I are pulling the entire weekend alone. Timmy is solid. Nayara is in immigration lockup. Fabrizia is having a birthday weekend. Grey is in Canada. Patrick ....still quit.

This small setback reminds me of an important Salami Shop philisophical point. Everyone encounters problems, challenges, and flat out disasters in life. No one is immune to this. We will have good times in life and we will be miserable beyond belief. Everyone goes through this. You are not alone.

I am constantly reminded that life is an adventure. The highs and the lows are what makes it so good. Without the lows the highs wouldn't be highs. Things can always get worse, and if they do...well tough shit. I can tell you one thing; I am not going to sit around worrying about the hard times. I am going to embrace them. I am only alive for a brief flicker of time and by god I refuse to be miserable. As the man said, "carpe diem" mofo.

When Chistopher Columbus set sail in 1492 he had no idea where he was going, when he got to America he had no idea where he was and when he got home he had no idea where he had been. All in all a great adventure Salami Shop style!

Meet The Employees: Timmy "Evil Kenivel" Pickett

Hi, I'm Timmy and am an 18 year old who is heading off to Gonzaga University in the fall. I just started working here at the Salami Shop about a month ago and have already advanced to a level 5 sandwich maker. Yes, I was the one who crashed the scooter, but I am fine. No broken bones, and the scooter is still barely working. Right now, I am working my 5th day in a row of opening and closing. Somehow I have managed to put up with Court and his shenanigans. I am hoping to continue my blog posting in college, as I try to adapt to the real world with Salami Shop mentality.

I enjoy long walks on the beach, romantic comedies, and a girl who can handle a whole big salami. Well, goodbye for now, customers are starting to come in.

Don't Die Wondering,

Timmy

Taste Of Bird Rock

Taste of Birdrock is a local street party where people pay $35 per head to taste some treats, let their kids have a good time , and for most, have a few drinks. This years theme was....well..I do not know. It seemed to have something to do with trying not to allow drinking in the street. As a result Salami Shop started passing out free vodka red bull shots at Noon. Red wine was also available.

Our crew on this special day consited of 1)myself, Court, Owner proprieter, head of the asylum; 2) Timmy (Eveil Kneivel), 3)Patrick, 4)Tara ,and 5) Nayara (pictures to follow). Our mission was to create and serve 1200 samples for the tasters of Birdrock and also operate the deli from 10 am till 10 pm.

Timmy got things off to a good start by pilling the Salami Shop Scooter into a power box 25 ft. from where he took off. Scooter.... wasted. Timmy bleeding from his right knee. Amazingly he gets a huge rush of adreneline, staggers back into Salami Shop and continues making sandos! I guess the delivery will be on foot since the scooter is not technically operational.

Patrick has decided that he cannot spend all this time working (15 hours a week) because he is "getting ready for college". He quits. We only have 1200 samples left to prepare. Timmy is dazed and injured, Patrick has quit. Noon. I slug back a double vodka xscience energy drink just to steady myself. The Deli gets totally slammed all day and we still have not prepared for the festa. I assume all is lost and start to get serious about the vodka energy drinks.

We start to make samples because we do not know what else to do. Just when things look really bad Nayara walks in. I am stunned. She is an 11 on a scale of 10. She is super classy and sweet. She tells us to relax. Everything will be ok. She is from Rio. By the way this is her first day.As Timmy, Nayara and I some how crank out all 1200 samples by the 5PM start of the party. Nayara's skills are amazing. The trays are immaculate works of art. I ask her if she has any catering experience and she just gives me a Euro style shrug and gets back to work. She is going to make someone a fine wife! Unfortunatly she is too young for me.....I guess.

We end up having a great time. We meet and great several thousand people and I would classify the entire thing a success. We really gelled as a staff and I am confident we can handle any sandwich challenge

Greetings from Salami Shop, Birdrock La Jolla, CA

This post will serve as the official SALAMI SHOP chatterbox. We hope to document and chronicle the highlights of a summer in the lives of the people working at a deli in La Jolla, CA. Although some liberties will be taken all events described herein will be based in fact to the best of our memories.

Salami Shop is an Italian Product based Southern California Style Sandwich Shop. We are located in Birdrock. Birdrock is a neighborhood in south La Jolla, California. We are 1/2 block from a nice little reef break called Forward St. We are a 1/2 mile south of the famous Windansea Surf Break.

By day we feed hungry surfers, young mothers, kids and tourists. At night we are let loose to live the big adventure called life.
